Just a note to commend you on a good job done with Sec 2_. As of this year, the Discipline Committee has not had much trouble with the class.

I’m pleased to inform you that the class is better behaved and the number of complaints against them has drastically reduced.

[The] pupils who had participated in your CARE programme last year truly benefited from the sessions. Your team managed to steer their boundless and restless energies into more meaningful pursuits. You have persevered to help them to stay clear of trouble or misdeeds.

Our school has embarked on the CARE Programme this year to help three classes of 120 pupils from Secondary 2 and 3 to effect a long-term positive change in their attitude and self-esteem. These three classes consist of a high percentage of at-risk students who have been under performing because of their poor attitude and poor self-esteem. Many of them have family problems to complicate their learning abilities. With this programme, we aim to intervene and transform these youths into empowered, resilient and ready-to-contribute youths.

The programme is constructed on the PIT model to help youths by acquiring lifeskills, building resilience, learning and living goal-directed and value-guided behaviour, and establishing wholesome relationship. The programme will run once a week for the entire year.

So far, we have been receiving positive feedback from the teachers and parents on the usefulness of this programme. These pupils have also displayed progressive improvements in their behaviour.

Besides the two-hour motivation coaching session conducted on a weekly basis, the counsellors also select pupils who need special attention for counselling to understand their emotional needs.

Furthermore, ‘CARE’ conducted “Supercharged Workshop” for our 124 pupils from Secondary 4N and 5N in January and March this year respectively. It is a motivational camp cum Peer Leaders’ Training. The objective of the workshop is to boost the self-esteem of the pupils and to make them interested in wanting to set their goals for future.

The counsellors have also shown supportive efforts towards our school activities. For instance, they volunteered to organise the Entrepreneur Camp from 18 – 20 July 2003 for 30 of our pupils free of charge. The camp not only introduced and inspired students to the possibility of owning their own business, it also helped them to understand the mechanics or process involved in setting up a business. They have learnt what is needed to manage and develop a business successfully. Pupils who have attended this camp have given positive feedback. The organisers have also indicated that they will help the pupils to realise their business plans that were drawn up during the camp.

CARE provides an excellent level of quality service to the college. Its counsellors are professional, caring and highly responsive to the needs of our students and staff.

I have worked with CARE, particularly Mrs Lan Teo since 1997 and have always been more than satisfied with their service delivery.

It is my sincere wish to see CARE being able to continue to meet the rising demand for Their services which have been making a difference in the lives of many young people.

Their building of a youth place will certainly expand their repertoire of services to meet the new challenges and needs of today’s youth. I strongly support their efforts and wish them continued success in their work with young people.

We are happy to have your dedicated staff conducting the Powercharged Programmes for all our Normal (Technical) students, Sec 1 to 4 since October 2000 and Powerexpress Programmes for all the Sec 1 & 2 Express and Sec 1 & 2 Normal (Academic) since Jan 2002. This year, in addition, all our Sec 3 Normal (Academic) students are also in the Powerexpress Programme.

The programmes are will received by the students and they have made good improvement in their social behaviour, moral values, self esteem as well as academic performance

Your committed staff have also gone beyond the lessons and call of duty to organise numerous camps, visits and outings to build rapport and confidence in them. They have also provided the counselling and emotional support to the students when needed. They have worked closely with the school to bring out the best in them.

We deeply appreciate the excellent work that your CARE Staff are doing at Yuan Ching Secondary School in caring for the students and providing them with good lifeskills to be responsible persons and to take charge of their own lives.
